About the Project

The design sets out to create a dynamic impact at city cape level on three joint plots. Its architectural form consists of three residential buildings B + G + 4F with a multipurpose hall, gym, children’s play area, and other facilities. Overall built up area is 40,370 Sq. meters with 170 apartment units of various sizes.

The scope involves Architecture, Structure & MEP modeling using Autodesk Revit. The Level of Detailing for the project was LOD 350. The model was used for coordination and the extraction of the shop drawings.

Key Challenges & Solutions

Challenge 1: Large Volume of Work in an Aggressive Deadline

The challenge in the project was to accomplish the large volume of work in an aggressive deadline. The deadline provided was to complete the project in 6 months.

The solution found was to allocate the work properly and allocate BIM Engineers for some dedicated tasks, so that they were able to deliver the files on time. Every engineer had his own responsibility of completing the task. Moreover, various Ad‐ins helped us save time in modeling and coordination.

Challenge 2: Inadequate/ Missing Information in IFC Drawings

Our BIM Engineers checked and compared the IFC design documents for inconsistencies. At times, we were unable to get the information from the input drawings. We often required more info and reference for project execution.

We raised around 78 RFI’s to the client and continued basic communication via email. We also arranged Skype meeting directly for project discussion.

Our Value Addition

We performed coordination work among all trades in a rigorous manner that reduced clashes and saved time and money for the project. Over 78 RFI’s were raised with 3D snap shots pertaining to Missing & Conflicting Data, Constructability/ Aesthetic Issues, Maintenance Issues and Accessibility Issues.

Pipes, Ducts and Cable Trays were re‐routed to reduce fittings and cost. Over 400 Clashes were resolved which involves around 50 critical clashes arises due to clash of ducts and pipes with the structure and also maintenance accessibility issues.
